Several organizations
offer training classes on measurement and verification of energy savings for performance contracting. Some of the most common courses are listed below. AEE M&V Course: The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) offers Fundamentals Of Measurement & Verification: Applying The IPMVP. This seminar examines current methods of measuring and verifying savings, specifically reviewing the International Performance Measurement & Verification Protocol (IPMVP). Attendees will learn the process of designing a proper M&V program for their projects, including cost/accuracy tradeoffs, baseline adjustments, parameter stipulations, maintaining space conditions, the role of verifiers, and the data needed for emissions trading. AEE, in conjunction with IPMVP, is now offering an M&V certification, the Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) designation, which is available to individuals who pass the course's 1/2-day exam and document their experience with M&V. The course is three days, including the 1/2-day exam on the third afternoon. The class is not mandatory for taking the certification exam. ASHRAE Learning Institute: The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers' (ASHRAE) Learning Institute offers Determining Energy Savings from Performance Contracting Projects: Measurement and Verification. This course provides an overview of M&V procedures and methods for determining savings from energy efficiency projects. Four brief case studies will be presented to illustrate concepts and issues associated with M&V: a lighting project (using both estimates and long-term metering), a VSD project (using long-term metering), a billing analysis and a calibrated simulation. FEMP Courses: The Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) offers several online and in-person courses related to various aspects of performance contracting. The ESPC Comprehensive Workshop is a three day course for federal employees that are considering embarking on a task order under DOE's "Super ESPC" IDIQ contract. FEMP also offers a number of ESPC courses via 3-4 hour webinars; these are listed on FEMP's events website. The Powerpoint™ presentations below were used during a half-day measurement and verification training course which is now offered in conjunction with the FEMP ESPC Comprehensive Workshops. |
